How to declutter your business in 2019

New year new me isn’t a mantra reserved just for yourself. It’s time to breathe new life into your business by doing some spring cleaning. No, we don’t mean bring out the feather duster and detergent for your office! But rather, decluttering your business means bringing in a renewed focus and energy, while getting rid of the things that just aren’t working anymore.

Use it or lose it. That's the mantra.

Keep it if it shows results

This goes for marketing, operations and even products or services. Take the time to review what are your best performing activities and optimize them. Often times we bulk up on unnecessary things that don’t add value to our businesses. So ask yourself questions such as: “Does printing flyers actually generate new leads?” or “Does this project management system work for this team?” if not, then find the best way to declutter drop, change or amend it.

Organise company information

Articles, invoices, proposals, learning resources and spreadsheets. The amount of documentation and artefacts a business can build up can be overwhelming. Whether your filing system is digital or not, don’t be afraid to remove or archive items that haven’t been used in a long period of time.

Focus on the relevant goals

Aim for fewer goals with well-defined tasks. Often we come up with new projects and ideas and end up with a backlog of unaccomplished goals. While constant innovation is important getting into the rhythm of editing what goals to strive for and what goals to forget is equally as important.
